Copper tool case, Mossberg ?
« on: August 11, 2014, 03:47:44 PM »
I recently picked up a lot of old pressed steel sockets. They were various manufacturers including many Mossberg.
I'm trying to ID the case they came in. It was made by the Patent Novelty Co., but unlike all the others I've seen, this is made of solid copper. There is a partial label but all I can make out is MO and the word Socket. Has anyone seen a Mossberg label like this ? Or is it possibly another manufacturer starting with the letters MO?

The Mossberg No 26 set was a 'rust proof' set designed for marine use. It came with plated sockets, but originally was in a wood box. I suppose there could be a copper box version....hmm

(There was also a small version in a fibreboard box)
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I have a Mossberg metal case with a decal like that. The decal is about 60% complete. I'd post a picture but unfortunately I have no idea where the case is. It's not made out of copper.

Looks like the decal is Mossberg. That will narrow my search a bit. Thanks for the replies. My latch is diffrent then the one you linked to. My box is also definately copper, (Very soft). I've seen many boxes made by PN Co. for various sets and document boxes, but this is the first I've seen in copper. I'll try to post additional pics. Thanks again.

Went back and looked closely after seeing your link. I can see the Mossberg logo to the left, between the M and S.
