Atlas Tool Co. A ghost Co??
« on: August 01, 2014, 02:04:10 PM »
This topic was worked on by a group of  the best last year - never resolved.

Does anyone have any solid info on ATLAS TOOL NY - maybe located in Troy, NY

The 8 inch pipe wrench (top) is stamped by them.  The other wrench is unmarked.

Cope mentions an Atlas Pipe Wrench Co in New York, but the pipe wrench he shows is different from yours.

Perhaps not so much a ghost company as a victim of the depression...

1915 Polks lists an Atlas Tool Co at 356 Broadway in 1915, with Franklin Bien Jr as President, and a director.
Other 2 directors (who are also sec/treas) Are Thos. Adam, Chas. Marks
Capitol listed at $5000 , even in 1915 that's not much to start/run a company.
Listed in 1919 Polks as defunct...

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

The "other" wrench appears identical to a "Ford" Model A tool kit wrench, even has the 3/8 " square key at the end of the handle, this fits the square socket head pipe plugs in the differential.
If not with the usual "Ford" script logo, does it have the "circle M" mark?

Didn't see one on the first look-over- will dust over some rust and grime and look again.
