Never bid over $1
« on: July 20, 2014, 01:32:31 PM »
At auction last night I never bid over $1 (except for a circular saw) and I got these little trinkets for $1 each. Unusual thing is with seven $1 bids no one bid against me on any of them. Never had that happen before and there was a good sized crowd at the sale. I would have gone higher on every one of them. Alas the Mossberg was not one used on the Waterloo Boy. Does your jar opener have a bottle uncapper ? New one for me.

The adjustable - is it BAHCO - the end looks like a tire lever.

Sorry. Yes that's a Bahco  other side says (8" Bahco Volvo.
Top wrench is a Coes and the Mossberg is a 275.

Fun :) Sometimes when you start the bid really low everyone thinks "wow, it must have something wrong with it, he only bid 50 cents", and they run away...)

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I have had this low bid thing happen a couple of times, but nothing like this.  When you toss out the first low ball bid and nobody says anything it feels unreal, like what did they all come to the auction for?     Second time, well that never happened, not in a row.    I seem to bid against a local junk dealer often, he ups his hand at a dollar, then I get it for two, plus a dirty look from him.  I'll carry home a few buckets of iron, he fills his truck.

Looks like some good stuff there. The combination jar opener/bottle opener gadget is patent #1,457,774 from 1923

Well spent $1.00!   Around here the auctioneers won't go that low. If they can't get anyone to give them $2.50 they push it into the other lot.

Thanks Bob for the patent number. Datamp says known example shows patent date but this one does not and you saved me some time.

Glad to be of assistance! Mine has a tiny date stamping on the arm with the bottle cap lifter, but no other markings.

Mine marked in same position. Can't read it but its stamped. Too small for my tired old eyes. Thanks for the help.
