Accessing and posting to the Forum via Iphone
« on: July 07, 2014, 08:43:14 PM »
Many people are using their smart phones to access Forums in order to read threads and submit their own posts these days - a great way to pass the time in Doctor waiting rooms. Motor Vehicle registration facilities, etc. -- better than reading a book

Although the following relates to the Apple Iphone, the same procedures in general apply to other smart phones including the Samsung Galaxy.

This Forum can be accessed easily via the Safari browser and renders very well in the Iphone as shown in the following screen shot:

Of course, the screen will need to be expanded (using finger-tip stretch) - probably best in landscape (sideways) mode as shown in this screen shot ..........

.......... for ease of signing in and reading & making posts.

I personally like to remain signed in to this Forum on both my home computer and Iphone - but I am lazy.

BTW, many web authors are designing their web pages to display and function optimally in smart phones these days. I do - here is a screen shot of one of my pages as it displays in my Iphone:

And here is a link to that page so that you can see how it displays in your regular browser on your computer.

Nice page, I like your reporting. Do you own the tools and ads?
I'll take some time to look it over.

Chilly,

Chilly,
Thanks Chilly. Yes I do own the tools and ads - I actually own four N0. 105 Tool Sets now (actually three complete and one missing the special wrench) and two No. 106 Tool Sets (and several No. 1431 hand drills).  I have fond memories and sentimental attachment to North Bros. "YANKEE" RadioTools and Tool Sets -- during the hard years of the 1930s my father (who was a great tinkerer) used to earn extra money maintaining  and repairing the radios of family members and friends (shoe repair as well). I used to "help" him - mostly by cleaning and oiling his tools -  probably got more in the way than helped - still, fond memories!

Have you got a program that I can use to post from my garage door opener thing?

I'm too cheap to pay what Iphone wants so I just fake it with the door opener.
I also disengage completely from any fool who pulls a smart phone out during a conversation with me.  Whole society is getting to be like a bunch of programmed rats with those little boxes.

Thanks for sharing, James (methods, tools, pics, and the memories).

You CAN buy a smartphone controlled garage door opener for about $100.

Also known as a teenager. You call them on their smartphome
and tell them to open the door. They are , however, not yet entirely reliable...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

There is already systems you can install and you can open your garqage door, turn on/off lights, set your alarm, turn on lawn sprinklers, etc. They also have some to start your car and warm it up for you in the morning.

I also must admit I do a lot from my iPad with wifi.

Soon before i moved out my laptop broke. I had to buy a new one cause there's a lot done for school on it. I looked at price for new computer. Me an my roommate were looking at price for getting a internet for the apartment. She realized it was cheaper and easier for us to each get a iPad with mobile wifi then to have a phone line/internet. We both had cell phones already so all we needed was internet. Of course we had to spend money to buy the new iPads but I needed a computer anyway. Now we can go anywhere an have internet while saving money. We also don't have tv but she got a Netflix account online witch is also cheaper an easier then having a cable.

Yes, in my opinion interrupting a conversation to talk on a cell phone is rude behavior (other than saying something like "I am in a conversation with another person right now so I will call you back").  I am particularly offended when people interrupt meals in a restaurant  to talk on a cell phone.

It is all amazing stuff - makes you wonder where it will all end up.
