Offered: Black  and Decker commercial router, Model 7620 Type 1, with extras,  $35 plus $11.50 for priority mail.

According to the exploded parts drawing, these routers were produced up to 1973 (not sure of first date of production).  This is a small router – 5.5 amps, ¼” collet, similar in size and function to Porter-Cable’s little dome-top Model 100.  It’s in good shape: cord’s sound, bearings not noisy.  I tested the collet by routing 3/16” deep with the full diameter of a 1” bit, and found no slippage; at the same time, the collet releases the bit easily.  Depth adjustments are smooth.

The router comes with an edge guide with an extra set of rods (the rods are not shown in the picture) and the wrenches for the collet (this requires very thin wrenches for the collet; the factory wrenches had disappeared, but Porter-Cable wrenches fit perfectly).

Black and Decker routers of this style have certain advantages.  The switch is always in the same place, near one handle.  Other edge guides work with straight edges.  The Black and Decker guide works against straight or curved edges and will even work into an inside corner, such as for making a rabbet inside a frame.  The bottom of the B&D guide has a slot for a ruler, allowing you to measure from the bit edge to the fence edge.  Finally, the edge guide attaches under one handle, allowing the other handle to be solidly over the work, to reduce tipping.
