Looking for some pin punches
« on: August 10, 2013, 07:23:10 AM »
I broke 2 of mine yesterday trying to drive a particularly tough pin out. Would anyone have a set of good long shanked punches for sale? Brand isn't important. Mismatched is fine. But I did want decent stuff. I plan on giving them a good beating, so nothing for the museum here. I was hoping for a set from 1/8" up to 3/8" or so. But I'm open to suggestions.  I'm open to buying or trading if I had what you wanted. What do you care to part with?

Got a picture of a "long shank" pin punch?  I might have a couple but I'm not sure they're what you're looking for.

Hi Branson, No, I don't have any pictures right now, but they're whats used for knocking roll pins out. Some might call them drift pin punches, or drifts. Long meaning 2-4" or so of the working end diameter and then theres a larger diameter on all of them for a handle. Total length would be about 5-7" I suppose. Those dimensions would/could vary by manufacturer I'm sure.

If you have a Tractor Supply near you, they have some pretty nice Mayhew (made in USA) roll pin punches in stock. I was just looking at them at my local store. They were not very expensive, IIRC.
