Small DOE Volkswagen Wrench
« on: July 21, 2013, 04:21:22 PM »
I went hunting in the Mid-Atlantic summer heat last Friday.  I found a small (4 7/8 inches long) DOE metrically-sized (10 & 13 mm) Volkswagen wrench. My 1966 VW Beetle didn't have any wrenches like this as I recall it, but that was a pretty cheap car. Anybody know if this wrench was supplied with some other VW?

Also, what does the DIN number signify on German wrenches?

DIN is a registration mark for a German industrial standards (for the shape/functional design of the wrench in this case)
Not quite an acronym, from German words Deutsche Industrienorm   (roughly) German INdustrial-standard

VW isn't the only one that used 10/13mm as I recall, but I forget what else (Porsche?)
Walters was a good tool tho
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

There are several makers of wrenches like this, with the same pattern. Most all are marked DIN 895. Some names marked are  Hazet, Walter, and Heyco. Some are unmarked, other than the size and the DIN mark.

I have a pile of these I have collected up. I need to get them all out and look at them.

Some are worth good money to collectors looking to complete OEM sets of tools for VW, Porsche, Mercedes, etc.

DIN was the German version of SAE.
