Johnston automatic wrench
« on: July 22, 2013, 04:26:53 PM »
Found a 11 in Johnston automatic wrench today. Noticed it did not have the raised area on fixed jaw that wrench in Vern Nail's auction had and found 15 in one in my basement that had the raised area also. One in basement is unmarked except for CRJ & P RR.
One I got today marked W T Johnson & Co. and Persons Mfg. Co.
Does anyone know if the lack of raised area is later or earlier than wrench with raised area. Also who is Persons Mfg Co ? Don,t find them listed as having made this wrench. Stan had an old ad pictured on some MVWC Flicker pics that showed some company like Volger or some such. Can't find those photos now. These are patent D24518 and Schultz 336.
 Any insight appreciated.

I found PERSONS MFG. CO of Worcester, MA listed as one of the exhibitors at the 1909 A.L.A.M. show at Madison Square Garden.  (Thanks to Google Advanced Book Search).

( http://books.google.com/books?id=GSQfAQAAMAAJ&dq=persons%20mfg%20wrench&pg=RA1-PA1#v=onepage&q=persons%20mfg%20wrench&f=false ) on pgs. 7 & 57 -- but no indication of what they made.

Hint on another site that they changed their name ~ 1913 to  Persons-Majestic Mfg. Co

Listed as a maker of motorcycle saddles (seats)

Majestic Mfg , also of Worcester, made motorcycle parts also (stands etc)..
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.
