Took a chance, found a new place to buy tools...
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:53:54 PM »
So, had a day off work to attend a Christmas concert my daughters class was performing in, in the next big city south of home.

On the way back, took a detour through a small town just outside the city. Found a thrift shop to peruse, but it was mostly clothing and glassware. As we were leaving, right next door was a little hole in the wall "Misc. shop"! Hmmm, some cool stuff out front, thought why not, I'm already here.

It was a treasure trove, the kind I like. Full of odds and ends, stacked to hilt. Run by a sweet little older lady. After looking around a little, had a good conversation with her, and bought the stuff pictured. I didn't even try to haggle, and even told her some info. on stuff she didn't have any clue about. Her shop is now on my "Must visit when passing through" list! I paid a fair price for this stuff, not yard sale prices, but not antique mall price either, and it kinda made her day.

So, the loot.....

-Defiance by Stanley No. 1250 ratcheting brace. First brace I've ever bought, it works correctly and isn't buggered up!
-Craftsman Needle Nose locking pliers
-Craftsman keyhole saw that uses reciprocating style blades?
-Sparta CS-45 1/2" ratchet
-New Britain NS-65 1/2" ratchet

Not Shown:
-6+ pounds of unused 3-1/2" cut nails (I make stuff from them!)

The ratchets should clean up nicely, and they appear to be the same ratchets except for knurling of the handles. Patent numbers are the same. Love the small size working end of these!

Liking that keyhole saw.  I have one without a blade.
"FORGED IN THE USA" myself.  Be good to your tools!

Nice little haul!

Can't speak for the Spartan, but the NB's internals will probably look like this:

Seeing that the Spartan is made by New Britain, the innards are probably the same.

Haven't took them apart yet, but by looking at them side by side, the only difference I see it the selector knob is a little different.

I'm happy, these will make great little user ratchets, as they have some scars and the Sparta has a slight bend to the handle. Amazingly, it doesn't seem to have the stripped-out innerds that usually comes with "cheater" use!
