These Vandegrift wrenches, patented January 6, 1891, do not have parallel jaws and were therefore limited to tightening square nuts. Wrench standards went up sometime after these were made, and Vandegrift disappeared. Vandegrift Manufacturing Co. was located in Shelbyville, Indiana. Nancy and I stopped off in Shelbyville several years ago. We asked antique store people there if they had ever heard of Vandegrift. The answer was, "No".
