More whimsical designs from Vandegrift.

These Vandegrift wrenches, patented January 6, 1891, do not have parallel jaws and were therefore limited to tightening square nuts. Wrench standards went up sometime after these were made, and Vandegrift disappeared. Vandegrift Manufacturing Co. was located in Shelbyville, Indiana.  Nancy and I stopped off in Shelbyville several years ago.  We asked antique store people there if they had ever heard of Vandegrift. The answer was, "No".

 You reminded me I had a Vandegrift (9 1/2 long) wedge activated wrench missing the wedge. While retreiving it I found the little fellow with the curly body like Stanley 62's Mine is not so pretty. If anone has a 9 1/2 wedge activated version that is broken, but has an intact wedge I'm interested..
