That's scary, what can you do about bears? Can you have them relocated to a safe area?
Don't know if they care that much about black bears. They've done some relocation with
polar bears which are somewhat endangered and a good deal more dangerous. Even
so, it seems that a bear has to be relocated very far away or it will find its way back to
the place it was a problem.
There have been bear traps around here forever. Its 2 barrels welded together end to end. A bait/lever at one end and a sliding trap door at the other. The bear crawls into the tight fitting barrel to the end after the bait and the door slides shut.
You do have to have somewhere accessible by road to drop them off though. Somewhere remote enough you aren't just causing problems for someone else. No problem around here.
Its worse now though. Have traps and nobody to help.
We had a game warder in every town until recently. Now there are 2 for the whole county and my county is larger than the states of Delaware and New Hampshire put together.
Mostly bears around the house mean the same thing as mountain lions around the house.
Neither one of these like people much (understatement). There are hundreds of miles all around they could be, and --all-- of them would rather be there.
When they start hanging around people they are either very sick, mentally defective or too old to hunt.
