Need to ID a Duro Chrome socket ?
« on: May 27, 2012, 09:07:49 PM »
Went to the flea market today like most Sundays.
Bought a bunch of tools, but have been unable to ID this Duro Chrome socket. It is a 3/8 drive 1-1/16 six point semi deep chrome plated socket. Part # 4438. I am thinking maybe for removing some type of sending unit or maybe for removing a vacuum modulater on a automatic transmission.

Is it kinda rounded where the flats come together?
For some reason the size is makeing me think GM oil pressure sending unit.
(old long type on the back of 350)...
Off the top of my head tho, probably wrong again...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

No it is square on the corners. I have sockets for removing sending units that are rounded like you suggested. The area that contacts the hex area on whatever it is to remove is shallow appox 1/4 of a inch so I know it has a special use.
