Craftsman Electric Circular Saw

I picked this up in an auction.  I’ve had a desire to try restoring this saw to some level of use.  It is a tank. Case and all it weighs a few ounces shy of 30 pounds.  It desperately needs a new cord.  Taking cues from prior strings here I won’t try it until I replace the cord.  Feedback on other first steps welcome.

If I recall correctly, that saw was made by a company with "flooring" in the name.  The top handle will work well only if you're over the work being cut - so it would make sense to have been built by a flooring company (assuming my memory is correct; any more, my forgettory is a bit stronger).

Mine is a lighter duty model of around the same vintage. I found it in 2020 in a neighbor’s shed slated for demolition. The cord was in bad shape so I replaced it. It had some hidden treasures in the bottom of the box.

Well, if you got the cord, I reckon the switch works. That's my usual concern.

Way kool!  Please don't breathe in any of the dust from that old casing, that's my best advice. Good luck with it!

Yadda, I keep seeing that damaged handle on this Craftsman Saw of yours. And it seems half of the handle is basically gone. And at the same time I see these handles I carved years ago. One is in this picture a top this cart I made. My Miter Saw is sitting snug  between the handles. But I wonder if a fella could carve a handle like this; extremely tedious, but eventually fit it to the other half of that saw.  I know it borders on insanity, so me suggesting that I might try that is a risky thing to say. But the handle has to be a certain size and shape no matter what the handle is for.

Wow Model 12!  I think you've been reading my mind.  I have bee considering that same thing.  In fact, if I go that way I will  probably also replace the front knob too.  It has a Crack that isn't a deal breaker, but if I replace the insert on the handle tha knob should match.   I hope to start in January.

It's the sort of work you have to set aside for when there's snow falling and low temperatures. The knob too, huh? You mean like the Maple handles on the Bosch Router?

We rarely see snow here in Houston, but winter weather is still dreary.  Mostly hoping I settle into my new position by then so I gave time to do some fun things.

I was born South of you there. In Nueces County, which is now part of Corpus Christi. I saw flurries only once and they were slight at that.
