Some days are diamonds and some days are stones

Today I was out hacking down some brush with my machete.  I bought it in 1959 from a guy in Florida who said he got it in the South Pacific during WW-2.  Thus, I have been using it for about 62 years.  It is a well built tool and has always served me well.  For some reason I decided to see if I could look it up on e-bay and sure enough I found one and according to the info it is British and of 1945 vintage.  There was only one, and he wanted about $250.00 for it plus about $70.00 shipping from Australia. :grin:

nice.  don't think i've ever seen one of those before.   Somewhere i think i still have my dad's old Collins with the horn handle.

Cool! now don't loose it! We have been cutting along the interstate cutting brush and trees. We started last winter then quit in spring when the field was planted. We were missing the  big nipper. Well found it hanging on the fence this fall after the  crop was picked. A certain wife of mine is bad at leaving stuff behind. At least I didn't find it with the garden tractor / mower.

Bought one with scabbard on the Amsterdam flea market in the sixties.
Don't remember what I paid for it. Not $ 250.00  :grin:

 Nice!  Very useful yard tool.  I have a US Navy machete purchased at a yard sale in New Jersey.  The blade is stamped Made In England Sheffield and has a khaki canvas scabbard marked USN.  I don't have photos handy but this link will take you to a previous post where I repaired the wood handle.

Definite diamond day!  I have a couple of machetes I found on the road over the years.  Neither has the history, heredity, or look of that bad boy!  Looks like it is ready for another 75 years!

amecks----nice job on the handle.  The one midnitemack and I have has a composite plastic handle, 1945 would be early use of that type of material.  They were not worth much in the 1960's, as there was still WW-2 stiff around.  I paid $2.00 for mine and for $20.00 the same guy sold me a P-38 with holster.
