Max Schwendner Patents
« on: April 18, 2020, 08:54:10 AM »
Max Schwendner from Reading PA was issued 2 consecutive patent numbers on September 3, 1907, Patents 864,805 and 864,806. Both wrench designs were produced. Patent 864,805 was for a wedge adjusted nut wrench, patent 864,806 was for a quick adjust wrench design that could be made in either a nut wrench or a pipe wrench. All 3 styles are pictured. The pipe wrench version is easily recognized by the ax handle design of the wrench.

Very interesting, different.  What prevents the wedge from coming out and getting lost?

The back of the movable jaw has fine teeth and the jaw has mating teeth plus the movable jaw is spring loaded to keep it open. Between the spring tension, the spring pressure and clean living the wedge stays in place.

Still looks like an easy piece to lose. Especially when adjusting from a smaller size to a bigger size.

Great set of wrenches Les!
