jar wrench
« on: January 24, 2018, 09:40:04 AM »
This is about as close to a wrench as I got at last Thursday's auction. Didn't look to be marked but I figured a dollar was a good price.'
When I got it cleaned it had a Jun 05 1923 patent date faintly stamped on it and i found the patent on datamp. Patent 1457774 assigned to J L Sommer Mfg Co of New Jersey. Don't know if they made this copy as pat date is only mark. This is a little outside my normal collection so I'm more ignorant than usual. Anybody know anything about this co.

I never found out anything on the company, but I have found a match to yours plus a couple of other variations.

LEFT - flat handles, with an old-style can opener blade. Marked PAT. 6-5-23

MIDDLE - flat handles, with a bottle cap lifter. Marked PAT. 6-5-23

RIGHT - "dished" handles, with bottle cap lifter. Marked PAT'D 4-12-23 ....or maybe it is 04-12-28?? I cannot tell for sure, but when I enter either date into Datamp it comes back and says that it is not a legitimate patent date. So I don't know what's going on there?
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.
