Hello, I know what this is, there is a Patent Date on the other side, but that would be too easy. I searched through 150 Patents, and finally found it. It is 5" long, and is missing the teardrop shaped ring ( my rough drawing) that is a sliding clamp. This is used on a tapered round shaft for a repair on the end of the tapered shaft (wood). I picked this up, thinking it was a spile, for tapping maple trees. I wasn't even close!!!!!! The Patent Date is late 1800's, this is a very simple device. I paid $.50 apiece for 3 of these, there is a Buy It Now on ebay for ONE, (with clamp ring) for $299.95. I need to find someone to fabricate the clamp ring. Similar tools are still in use today, but are made of plastic, for approx. $3.00. yikes!!!!!!! Please let me know when to start dropping hints!!!!!
