Bessey Clamp

Hello, I am guessing this is used for woodworking, but I have never seen one like this!!! This measures 23-1/2" long overall, as seen in first photo. This opens to 12", and has a 7" throat depth. Both top & lower pads float.Has anyone seen this before, or what would be its specific use? Thanks, Lou
