Penens Corp. 1261 3/8 Drive Ratchet
« on: April 28, 2017, 09:11:35 AM »
As I mentioned in my introduction post, I'm a little curious as to the date(s) of manufacture and any other info someone might be able to offer regarding this ratchet.

If you missed my intro post, this ratchet was my Dad's and has been around for as long as I can remember. (I'm 55 years old.)  I've done a little research and came up with some similar ratchets, but nothing that matches this one exactly.

First, and the closest in design is the is the Penens Corp. 1061.  Basically the same design, except on the head there is only one screw holding it together instead of two, like on the 1261.

Next there is the Penens/Speed Master.  Same head design, different handle.

Then there is the Penens/Tru Test T1261.  Same handle design but different head design.

Below are pics of my Penens 1261 ratchet.  I didn't post pics of the others, but pics of them are here; http://www.toolarchives.com/book/export/html/303

Thanks!
Aaron

I'm no help with the technical questions, but what I can say with some authority is that its definitely a cool looking ratchet.
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

Considering what you've found is it possible it was rebuilt with parts from a different model?
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

That's kind of what I was thinking at first, but then I haven't found anything regarding a Model 1261, just a T1261.   And from what I can tell, the only way that swap could happen is if the Speed Master is a Model 1261 (there's too much glare on the pics of it to see a model number) and someone took the replaceable head parts and put them on the handle/body of the Penens 1061. And I can't say for sure, but I don't think that would be possible since the 1061 is 1/4" drive and the Speed Master is 3/8" drive.  But those are the only two with the same, or at least similar head designs.  Who knows????

Thanks!

No funny business there. While I can't date it, I can say it's just one of the two head styles they used (not counting round heads).

Penens, Fleet, Speedmaster as you said, Challenger, etc.
