I haven't been ignoring the TT crew the past 6-8 months, just been busy with other stuff and such.  Noel's been keeping up with me on the Antique tools group on FaceBook, so at least he knows I didn't do the deep six.

Scored a repainted, but otherwise cherry Plomb small tool chest(20x12x9" at an auction yesterday and that was worthy of posting.  Anyone tell me its age by the logo and the embossing in the lid.  The Plomb logo breakdown seems to suggest that they quit putting "Los Angles on their stuff by 1940, so I'm tentatively guessing 1934 to 1939.  The shipyard/aircraft motif on the inside decal makes me think it's prior to the "golden naked Lady" logo stuff before they became Proto.  Any help would be a plus.  The photos look gray, but the box is actually black.

Also, a couple photos of a cherry Herbrand S-10 bullet end his little 3/8" drive brother.  Gave $25 for the 3/8" on ebay, but only paid $2 for the 1/2" at an estate sale.  Classic example of estate sale peddlers mentality of"If it ain't C-man or Sanp on it's junk".  Let's hope they keep thinking that way......Never seen a 1/4" HErbrand with the tapered end, so maybe they don't exist.......

That is a deeply cool box.  Am I seeing it correctly that there's a well at the back of the box- not sure how deep - a little cantilevered tray hinged off the lid, a lift-out tray up front, and a cave (not sure what the technical term would be) in front?  Interesting design.

Glad to see you back! If you're too busy to drop us a line every so often, you need to scale back a bit :) All work and no play.... ya know!

At first I thought the removable tray was an afterthought, but the metal etc. seemed of similar gauge and texture, and it fits in there PERFECTLY, so maybe it was spozed to be there.  With the side handes, no top handle, and only a hasp for locking, I doubt seriously if this was ever designed to be portable.  As an aside, my conversation with the auctioneer led me to believe that the heirs didn't want any of the tools from the estate, so either this box was a gift that never got used , or maybe it was bought at an auction prior to me getting it.  I combed the entire batch of hay racks and beer flats and only fond 2 Plomb screwdrivers on the entire premises.  The wood handles had been painted black, and yes, I bid and won that flat too.  IT was a lot cheaper than the tool chest.....lol

Yeah Chilly, that's me after the box too.  Don't give a crap about the nails and casters and I told the guy running the CT franchise out there if I won it to just send me the box and donate the nails etc to the local Habitat For Humanity group.  I fell kinda bad about this whole deal not knowing who else was after the lot, cuz for all I knew someone really anted the nails and casters and that trailer hitch piece......lol.  I might have some Proto LA duplicates in my collection that could head your direction, but let me see how things go with the seller should one of us win.

Once at an auction I was bidding on some sterling and a gold chain. I was buying it as an investment, or rather a hedge against rising precious metal costs. I noticed the other bidder was an elderly woman. She looked kind enough. I asked her if she was buying for personal use. She said yes. The auctioneer was looking to me to raise the price. He said "There are no friends at auction." Although ready to go higher, I just said "Maybe there Will be now." She got a heck of a deal.

I won't cost you money, Moose. Glad to know it is you.

I'm as high as I wanna go.  Remember, I got that cherry Plomb 9985 box for $38 last month.  I don't wanna be greedy.  The shipping is gonna be a killer, but the box is really cool.....late 40's I would guess......
