Hammer lot

Pick up a nice lot the other day. There were some good cobblers hammers. Looking to research these 2. Internet searches came up empty. Any help with name, type or age would be appreciated. Thanks.

The top one looks like it might be blacksmith made... Can't tell you anything other than that...

I  think the bottom one might be a patented hammer that was also used to hitch your horse you could drive the spike under the spring into a post or tree and tie your horse to it. I don't remember who the patent holder is.

The hitching hammer shown in Sellen's book is different then this and it was screwed into a post or tree.

Hammer with a spring is a P. F. Peters patented shoe lasting hammer. Patented January 22, 1878, Patent 199568. Donnelly has sold several over the years ranging from $200 - $100 ea. There should be an awl hidden under the spring.

Now you have me singing the " Peg and Awl" song to myself. 1880's  song about machines taking over the shoe industry.
Never would have guessed that hammer use. That's why I come back here three times a day.
