Unique Forge
« on: October 12, 2011, 11:43:48 AM »

This forge was made out of an old boiler.  It has a large Champion Fire box and was used for many years at the Greenbrier Alabama blacksmith shop.  What looks like a handle in the front, lifts up to make a support.  Another of Mr. Burton's toys.

Good looking, now hook up the air, pour the coal  to it and get busy.   Did the tongs come with it?  Got plans for getting it going?

Serious hammer work with style (note ear rings).

At the forge.  Here she is working with coal but she likes propane better as she mostly does small detail work that could burn in a coal forge.

My wife KatBird at her first Blacksmith class.  Both of her Grandpaws were blacksmiths and she grew up knowing NOT TO TOUCH Iron with out doing the heat test.  She was the only woman there and usually the first to complete each project.  But she had spent time in both  her Grandpaw's forges and around my forge for 40 years.

Unfortunately John K, it's not mine.  It belongs to Mr. Burton Marsh an 88 year old friend.  I have taken measurements and plan to build a forge like this when I get past my transplant.  I can't work at the forge until late fall because the heat would interfere with my dialysis, but a few more weeks and I'll play with my wife's propane forge until I get my coal forge up and running.  Do what you have to!
