Another job for Rivetman
« on: July 12, 2014, 01:31:35 PM »
Didn't plan on buying this so didn't look it over but as auctioneer was asking for $2 bid I noticed the Stanley aluminum tote so I spent $2. The tote is good ;the knob may be original and the frog looks like a type 2 . The iron is obviously not original but alas some large animal has taken a bite out of the cheek. Planning to part it out but maybe Rivetman can save the day. This thing dates from civil war times.

Nice Alum tote.  That is well worth the monster $2 investment...lol

Looking closely at the raised boss on which the tote is bolted, might the aluminum tote be a replacement?  And thanks for your post!

Yes the aluminum tote is a replacement since they date from 1930's while the plane with
the Bailey patents looks like type 2 which gives it a date of 1869-1872.
