Do you suppose this is the real deal?

OK, it's not really a tool, and everyone should know what it is-but I wonder how old it might be. There are no makers marks anywhere I can see.





It's got 3 splits like this, fairly evenly spaced:



I might have to start chewin' tobacco!

Can't guarantee the time, but I think spitoons began disappearing in the early 50s.

Is it copper or brass?? Brass age cracks - copper rarely cracks unless very work hardened....

I worked in a Western Wear store in the 70s and early 80s. We always had one or two for sale.

This hangs in my shop, unfortunately I have shameless friends who WILL spit on the floor.
Put 5 gallon buckets with sawdust in the corners for spittoons.

I looks more like copper to me, at least on the inside where something has cleaned a few spots. I'll have to clean it good with soapy water. And rubber gloves :cheesy:

They made them into the '80's.  I had a habit once that required one..
