Precision Bilt and some other Finds

I'm finding a trend over the years that the better tool sales seem to come early in the season.  Certainly been the case up here as the first sales of the year are sprouting.  The Craftsman box and everything in the top tray were V series stuff and both rats had the oil holes.  The Torco vise was a first for me and the guy let it go for $5.

The lineup photo consists of:
Lectrolite tappet wrench, Wards Eclipse DBE, 1/4" Plomb pear head rat, Billings/Spencer S Adjustable, Snap On Vacuu Grip side cutters#87's(when were these tools made in PA??), first generation(pat.pending on the handle) Crescent 10", Mayhew drift, Artisan Pliers, Precision Bilt(1940's Spiegel Catalog??) socket set, Huge Craftsman 200 w soldering iron with original box, 1st generation Vise grips(great teeth and the logo on the bottom handle grip.  and a Pr. of Samson locking pliers

The trio photo has a pair of Wizard locking pliers for Oily, a really cool Hinsdale Spud wrench, and a small Simplex Utility 100 vise.

Looks like you have a new project to make a new set of vice jaw inserts. Made by Wilton so it must be good for another 20 or 30 years.

Sorry, that photo was taken before ai got the old ones back in.  One screw was busted off inside the vise and fortunately I was able to drill and extract it out.  Had to replace the screws with the black button head  1/4"x20  machine screws, but i kept the 3 good old ones in case "collector" wanted it as original as possible.....lol.

Great stuff!

I just snagged a pair of Lever-Jaw (Samson) locking pliers, and they are cool.

Outstanding!!  This is my 3rd or 4th pair.....somethin' about that round end on the adjuster screw....lol.....oh, AND the $2 price tag.....

What size is the Billing S-crescent? 
 (I just made up that name heh)
 I love totally these wrenches. I don't even know how many sizes were made?

  Those little Plomb round handles are good tools. Precision made.
     
   How are the Artisan pliers as far as quality? I have some dinky adjustable parrot heads that are just dynamite. They aren't all that impressive to look at, but the damn things have held up though thick and thin.

Scott:  Billings is an 8", and came from my downsizing neighbor.  Yes, the Plomb is very "buttery", but headed for the collector's box, will all his cousins and great grandfathers.  The Artisan pliers are of good to very good quality.  The chrome finish on them is excellent.  They either led a sheltered life or the chrome can withstand nuclear attack....lol.  Judging by the shape of some of the other tools in that sale, I'd say the latter is likely true.

Who made the Artisan pliers?  I know that some of their socket sets were made by S-K Tools.

Not sure of the manufacturer, but they were sold in Gambles stores back in the day.  Guess Artisan was as close to Craftsman as they could get for name recognition.  These pliers are top notch, however, my old Artisan 3 drawer tool box leaves a lot to be desired  quality wise.
