Stanley No. 32 Scraper?

I came a cross a strange Stanley tool today at a flea market. It looked like an old paint scraper. It had a removable blade that ran perpendicular to the axis of the handle. The handle was wood and had an extended tear drop shape which connected to 2 parallel metal bars which connected to the blade holder. The blade holder had "Stanley No. 32" cast into it. There seemed to be no additional handle or provision for one that might put downward force on the blade.  I have done some internet searches for the device and have seen nothing like it. Does anyone know what this might be? Sorry I have no picture.

32 or 82??

Below no 82 Box or Crate scrapers = to clean stencils off boxes etc so they can be re-used..

Look up a Stanley No. 12 scraper or No. 70 box scraper and see if it is similar to yours. No.'s 80 and 82 are quite common as well. I've had a few of these over the years but No. 32 does not ring a bell. If it does not match any of those perhaps you can get someone to post a pic for you. You can be sure someone on this list should be able to tell you something about it if they were able to see it.

The No. 70 was marketed as a "box scraper," although it's actually a little plane, specifically for cleaning off stencils and other markings from boxes for re-use.  The No. 82 appears in their 1914 catalog (and no doubt others) in with the scrapers, for flooring, cabinetwork, and the like.

They're nicely designed tools.  I've yet to use mine, but the price was right, and I know the time will come...

Billman, it looks like you are right. It must have been an 82. I am glad I didn't buy it. The guy wanted 30 bucks for it. If the seller hadn't painted the metal, I probably would have bought it.
