Barcalo Buffalo Stacked wrench set
« on: June 01, 2014, 03:55:24 PM »
Cool little set!  I am amazed that the latch at the top lasted without breaking.

Between breakage and loss, I bet not many of them survived.

Looks like the wrench  set holder that eventually received patent no. 1,830,577 in 1931  (http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=1830577&typeCode=0 ) .   That patent application was filed in 1928, so your set falls in that 2 1/2 yr window.

I have a few ( 3, I think ) similar Barcalo sets in the same style of holder but none have a latch like yours. Your set shows 5 wrenches whereas the patent referred to by mvwcnews shows 6 wrenches. I think I have 2 sets of 5 and 1 set of 6 and several spare wrenches of the same style. Doesn't  look like yours would hold 6 but it would be interesting to know what sizes your set consists of. I'll have a look for mine and see what sizes are in my sets
I have a fair amount of Barcalo tools but have never seen or heard off any catalogs showing what they produced over the years.
Be interested to know if anybody has ever seen printed info on what all they offered.

This set has been on the farm for a long time.
the second smallest wrench went missing so I
stuck in another barky to fill it up.

Cool set. Love the latch!

Just think - if that tools set were made now, it'd be plastic, made-in-China, and last about a week!lol

There are a number of Barcalo patents for tools holders.  #1967458,  1917409, 1830577, +

My set was made after the application but before issuance so was made after 23 Feb 1928 & before 3 Nov 1931.  Also I have 8 different patterns of Barcalo OE wrenchs.   Chuck Garrett
