Anybody have any info on this XCELITE nut driver?
« on: August 29, 2011, 06:02:32 PM »
Picked up a 1/4" nut driver today. I've seen many an XCELITE in my days, but the Orchard Park, N.Y. inscription is new to me. Any info on how old this might be?

Orchard park was where Park Metalware was. They used that address to the 70's...
The nut drivers go back to at least the 40's, but the earlier ones are tapered below the handle,
dunno when the handle changed to your shape, but, the handle changed again after Cooper, it got longer....

Sometime between 73-76 they became part of Cooper and changed address...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

So, the latest this one could be is '73? Probably 60's though, eh?
The handle is a bit rough, but the hex opening is pretty good. Has lots of life left for a 40+ year old tool!

Since getting this Xcelite with Orchard Park on it, I've seen another one or two so marked. Maybe my locale is a hot-spot for that particular variation?

Here is a pic of a box of screwdrivers I got yesterday. NOS from an electronics store in Pittsfield MA that closed 3 or 4 years ago.
