A new-old tool
« on: October 31, 2012, 06:54:41 PM »
Here is a forged hay hook I hammered out in September.   Not a lot of need for these now with the big bales and such.   But have found a few old farmers like to hang one up on the wall.  Done on a coal fire, the point is reduced by hammer, no grinding.

Good looking functional hook!  Good point and curve.   I've made a couple myself -- they're still useful at reenactments and other events where they use hay bales for seating and such.  The old bales are what I most commonly see out here in California.  Learned how to use one of these hooks to snap the baling wire when I was about 12.  Haven't had to do that in a long time.
