Brass mold or press
« on: March 28, 2012, 07:45:20 PM »
I got this 2 piece mold / press last week, and am trying to figure out what it was used for. It measure 4" wide 2 1/2" deep and 1 3/4" tall and is made of solid brass. The mold itself was poured not machined. There are no ports in the mold to pour material into. Thanks

It's an embossing die, a flat sheet of something was put between the halves.

Common for hollow costume jewelry, but not generally brass (too soft)

Perhaps for plastic?
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Looks like a embossing plate for something.

Usually what they would do is heat up a sheat of something perhaps in this case I would guess plastic and put the plates between it an press down. It was mostlikely outfitted to some sort of automated press.

Thats just a guess thoe.
