Odd Little Tool

I am not sure what this thing is.  It kind of looks like a line up tool, an awl or a punch.  It has definitely been hammered on the top end and the bottom end is bent.  Or was it just misused?

That could be it Bob.  I did not think of that one.  It could be a small marlin spike for small wire rope.

Your right on, marlin spike  for wire rope.    A Fid,  ( mistakenly called a marlin spike  )  is used for rope.  Learned that 45 years ago on USN boot camp.   The things one remembers from the past !  Far different from trying to remember what happened an hour ago.

Sad that the Navy doesn't teach that to everyone now. A Boatsman's Mate probably learns that but they didn't cover that in basic 20 years ago.
