Strange Lowell Ratchet Brought Baack To Life....
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:41:47 PM »
Can't find any information on this Model  50/50 QR  Ratchet Wrench from the Lowell Tool Company of Woster Mass.  Apparently this old school ratchet that only has the two sizes that work on it.  As you can see from the tear down pictures, but if this thing is really old, I don't understand why it has a piece of plastic that holds the pawls in the unit.  It was REALLY gummed up, and now it works really well.

If any of you know what this was designed to do or any info on the company, I'd be curious as to what is behind this strange tool.

Thanks

Your rat looks like the "New Lag Screw Wrench" shown in 1881 American Machinist magazine article as shown on page 207 of Ken Copes 2nd Edition

Its either for power line work or telcom.

I am not sure about that exact model but I know that thats the type of wrench. Lowel is still around and makes that type of wrench to this day just different sizes. They have been around dince 1869(according to there website) Perhaps a test of time how good it is.

Lineman swear by them.
