Very tiny hammer _ what's it for?
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:15:08 AM »
I found this small hammer yesterday and am curious about what it could possibly be used for. It is 5 3/4" long and has advertising on both sides. One side reads: Beaver - 660 watt pull socets and the other side reads: Beaver - 3 amp capacity switches. Thanks, Al

It likely is an advertising piece.

Cool hammer. I had to look up 'canopy switch'. Here's what I found.
a small compact electric switch installed in the canopy of a ceiling fixture for direct control of the light at the fixture and usually operated by a cord or chain
I haven't ever heard those kind of switches referred to as such, but there ya go.

What that big old thing?? Heehheheheheeheheee
An advertizing giveaway household hammer I'm guessing.
The product they were advertizing sounds like the old chain or string pull sockets from before anybody had wall switches, and lamps were turned on and off at the socket. I have a few of those old sockets in my electric junk.

Not so tiny though. Here is my watchmakers hammer. 4"
Its laying on a 2 pound sledge which has a stubby handle itself.

Candy hammers are only 3" long!

Thanks guys for the interesting and informative replys. The hammer was certainly an advertising peice but I thought it might have had a specific function. It has a strange head for a hammer and it has a screw driver at the other end. I have several small hammers (and hatchets) with cigar advertising embossed on the handles. They have the function of opening the cigar box then pounding the nail back in to close it. After learning what a canopy switch was, I don't see a connection between a pull switch and the small hammer. Thanks, Al
