Another interesting What's-It from my junk man brother!!!
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:01:38 PM »
Ok, here's another one from my family junk collector. Looks like a medical or veterinary device to me.

I'll see what you folks think.

Knob turns, adjusting the jaw.
The threaded portion forward of the knob has some sort of quick-adjust mechanism. Just flip the lever up, adjust by pushing in toward fixed jaw end. Lock lever, teeth engage threads allowing knob to really crank it down tight.

It's about 15 inches long. As you can see, it was a fancy nickel plated tool in it's day. Time has been rough on it.

Equine dental device?
Fancy pipe clamp?
Surgical instrument?

-Aaron C.

My vintage tool Want list:
Wards Master Quality 1/2" drive sockets (Need size 5/8), long extension, & speeder handle.
-Vlchek WB* series double box wrenches.
-Hinsdale double-box end round shank wrenches.

I have never seen anything like it. I doubt that it is dental. My father done a lot of the vet work in our area and had a large set of dental tools for horses. One of the things he often lamented he didn't have was a tool for inserting large capsules in the uterus to treat various infections. I never saw one but that is my WAG for this one.

Probably a horse tooth puller  - clamp it on the tooth and wringle and twist until the tooth comes out - ouch!!!

Here's one for human teeth...

I was gonna guess a combination pecan picker upper and cracker....

I have seen a less elaborate device used by pharmacists to handle poisonous substance bottles.

It's nowhere near long enough for a snake. If I am at the other end of a snake I want the stick at least 30 feet long so I can get a running start when it gets mad....
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.
