The Smallest Shoe Hammer I've ever seen

I found the smallest shoe hammer I've ever seen.  A sad little hammer laying in a shoe repair box.  I asked about buying just the hammer.  All or nothing but she dropped the price, so I bought.  More about the shoe repair box in a latter post.

The little hammer's face was flat, the rust was rampant and the handle was loose.  Took off the handle and replaced with a temporary one.  After seeing ScottG's handles I thought a special little handle for a special little hammer was called for, (will be a later project when I get rid of this heart cather) wire brushing to remove the rust, then out with the files to restore the domed face,

, a coat of flat black, installing the handle and presto chango.

To show how small she is here's two more shoe hammers to compare.

From the far left, in a size I know as #1, weighs 1 Lb 12 Oz, Middle hammer, a#0, that I showed the restoration in a former post, weighs 1 Lb and the baby, would be I think a #00, weighs just 10 Oz.  Note all weights are taken with the handles on.

I know Branson, little hammers draw me in.   If it is little, I'm hooked.

The shoe box had a heel and 5 different shoe size anvils, several old tack boxes filled with tacks, two sizes of rubber heels and a multi-purpose anvil.  I'll start the cleaning next week.  I already have the stand for the shoe anvils.  I'm planing a shoe repair bench for the anvil stand in honor of my Great Great Grand Pa Woodall, who was a cobbler and harness maker.  I can see a whole cobbler display with the bench the tacks and the hammers.  I'll show some photos of the contents latter.

ScottG that was just a temp handle.  After seeing your handles, I thought that maybe I'll try something a bit ambitious.  I have a chasing hammer that has a very slender handle that has an  elongated oval for the hand.  I thought I would try that.  But they are going to operate on my arm on 11 Jan. in install my fistula.  They tie a vein and an artery together.   When that matures, I can get rid of this heart catheter, which will give me a better quality of life.  Then I can start on the handle.  So just a temp for now.

That is one very cool hammer.

Rusty I was thinking more like doll shoes. LOL  Really I think it was maybe an apprentice hammer.
