Wm. Schollhorn / Stanley Sweetheart dividers
« on: February 04, 2020, 04:45:09 PM »

I have a nice 6 3/4" pair of dividers like these (second pic)  marked Schollhorn New Haven Ct. Pat Jan 9 1866 on the swivel.  But mine have a Stanley Sweetheart (1920-21 type) on the locking screw.
Anyone know if these were marketed by Stanley or is it possible that the Sweetheart locking screw is a replacement?
At any rate, they are beautiful with super patina.

I have a leather punch/rivet tool marked "W. Shollhorn co. New Haven Conn." and also on the jaw of the punch part in script it says "G.L. Judd Co. New York". I wonder if Shollhorn wasn't a hardware company that jobbed out items and sold under their own name.

Schollhorn was a manufacturer.  I just wanted to know if they manufactured my dividers for the Stanley brand--or perhaps a previous owner switched the clampscrew.  I am guessing the former is the case, but....

So it looks like Shollhorn made the tool for Judd. Judd made drapes, carpet, picture hangers, etc. plus the tools and hardware for installing them. They started as harness and hames makers. They were bought out by Stanley in 1954.
