Photos at link above , won't load here
Why the clamping bolt?
Why the odd shape?
Why the pivot?
I bought it just to find out

No photos there either, at least for me. Do I need to be a member?

Hello, I am going to take a guess without seeing it. Sounds like a Machinist's Jack Screw. Here is a link to an ebay item that might be it. I imagine the locking bolt would be there to ensure against movement once dialed in.   https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mini-3-Machinist-Screw-Pedestal-Leveling-Jacks-lot-of-4-Armstrong-Bros/372646137033?hash=item56c370ccc9:g:deMAAOSwcwdczx~F   Regards, Lou

Wow , without a photo and you nailed it.
I'm not a machinist as you can tell, fixed a lot a of cars though.
I figured the screw was to lock it , but not sure why the base is shaped like that.
I guess it fits the lathe bed?
Thanks , they agreed over at the Gazette
Sorry about the photos.
