Hard to tell from the pix and I can't make out the the name but it has the general form of a type of test tube clamp - used to move them when holding by hand is not desired - as in when they are hot or cold. Modern ones are usually much different.

Couldn't find anything quite like it but then I only spent a few minutes searching. The pic is a wooden one but has much the same form.

That is so cool.  And made of wood!
Wood is a good insulator.  But it doesn't look to have spent much time near a flame.

The OPs may be metal - the one I posted is wood but it is listed as a test tube clamp.

Being made of wood, could it be a design model for a tool?
VWs to D10s, I've fixed em.

+1

But not only for when heated.  It's often not a good idea to hold a test tube by hand.
