NBM45 - 1/2" ratchet - New Britain?
« on: January 03, 2017, 08:53:47 AM »
Yesterday I bought a used tool cabinet set - top and bottom boxes. Sort of rough condition but all the drawers slide properly and I think it will look great after repaint.
Maybe Lou will recognize it from the Craigslist ad.  It came with a number of tools - a drawer full of sockets, one full of wrenches and various other tools.  I found a lot of rusted bent junk but a few surprises.  One was this ratchet - a NBM45 USA with a patent number for New Britain.  Was this sold as a New Britain ratchet?  Were these available thru NAPA stores?
I'll be posting photos of the toolboxes and a lot of the tools as I sort through them.  The top box is going to be used here at work.  It's a Metal Box & Cabinet Corp. MB206 - very sturdy.  I've started the repair on it already.
Regards
Al
Here's the ratchet - it's exactly like the one in the ratchet thread posted by hofferwood - his was a Sparta CS45.

So Sparta was a Napa branded line of tools ? I have picked a few Sparta brand tools over the years. Did only one company supply tools for Napa stores or was it the lowest bidder that supplied them ? Back in 1986 the company i worked for told to go down the street to the Napa store where we had a account. They said they had made arrangements for me to charge up to $300.00 on tools for my 5 years working for the company. The tool box i bought at the Napa store had some name that i can't remember at the moment, but on the bottom of the box it was stamped Homak.

The e clip was there on the table just outside camera shot.  I was lucky - this only needed the dry gunky grease washed off and fresh lubricant.  As for repairs check hofferwood's photos in the ratchet thread(wrench forum) - he has detailed photos.
