Crescent tool display
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:24:20 AM »
I am new to this site. I came across it as I was searching for information on my crescent tool display I recently purchased. I seen smaller version on here before but did not have a cast iron base nor was it as big, cast iron base has crescent stamped in it.  I wanted to see if anyone knows of the value of this tool display? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I bought mine years ago from a member here, so the price was right. I see one on Ebay now and the seller is asking $400. Don't think he will get that price. I don't see any in the "Items Sold" listings. Some are asking $100 for single panels. Again, I don't think that is realistic.
I stalled on completing my board for various reasons.

Thanks for the feedback! I noticed the one listed on eBay is missing 2 panels mine is complete with all 6 panels. Yeah I thought the panels listed for $100 on eBay and there was one panel for $300 was a stretch. I think the stamped cast iron base really brings value. Haven't decided if was going to sell it or keep it the wife is telling me to keep it she likes it.

many item values are dictated by supply and demand,

I may pay $25 for a item that someone else thinks is only worth $5

yet I may be willing to only pay $5  for what someone thinks is worth @25

to get top dollar, you need more than one person interested in an item at auction

 just my opinion.

are you going to try to fill the display with the proper tools ???   it may be a good starting.
point to a very interesting hobby.

p.s. I just read your last post, I really like your wife's attitude, yes, you may tell her.

Thanks turnnut. Yeah my thoughts exactly with supply and demand. If I do decide to fill it I will definitely fill it with the proper tools for sure that's how I roll. It is pretty cool looking.  When I seen it in the old general store I found it in I just had to have it and fortunate for me the guy was selling stuff.

P.S. As we sit here over lunch I shared with my wife your comment that got a chuckle out of her.

I used to have the attitude " keep it , it can only go up in value"
But I watch the Antique roadshow programs that review values , and seems more then 50% of the items dropped about 40% in value in 7-10 years
I pay what I think it's worth to me , I sell at what someone thinks it's worth to them.
Not as many people buying " old stuff" like there was at one time.
Values change
You have a neat piece , doesn't take a lot of room
Consider the effort and cost of shipping if you decide to sell
