Pawn shop finds for 8-5-15
« on: August 05, 2015, 03:35:07 PM »
A Bonney obstruction wrenches, a Utica flare/box combo, a Thorsen that will fill a hole (now only lacking the 15 and 16mm of those), and the coolest pop rivet gun I've seen in a long time. Just have to have it.

I didn't realize it at the store, but I think the main body is aluminum, and the squeeze lever is steel! Gonna take that sucker apart, clean and check, lube and re-assemble. I think it's the pick of the litter.

For $1, I'm stoked!

Wonder if i can find any history or date on it?

Got it all apart in under 5 minutes. One snap ring, two pins. I'll take pictures during the cleaning process.

Thanks!

I probably have two or three pop guns. Some cheapo's, one is a decent one. But this was just too cool to pass up!

Nice finds there Bonneyman.
Vintage tools have a story to tell, and I want to hear it.

Here's the pop gun all disassembled. Upon cleaning I found a crack along the top of the aluminum handle. Tried straigthening it back out - it snapped off! Arrgh! Filed it down and sanded it smooth - shouldn't affect the operation. The operating handle is a piece of starp steel bent 90 degrees to form a flat spot. Nice execution of work.

Then there's a pic of it cleaned, lubed, and painted, and a family pic of my 3 guns.

Guess I did pretty good on the price. Here's a place that said it was about $65 last year, but since Stanley acquired the manufacturer the price went up to $169!!!
