I have an early Belcher Bros boxwood pattern makers shrinkage rule 24 inch that is not described in the "paz member" post "Boxwood folding rules" in 2014 and thought I would add it to the discussion/informal list. This rule also seemingly contradicts the standard that Belcher pattern maker's shrinkage rules made in the US, 24 inch, read from left to right. The one I have reads from right to left. Also the Elegant old English numbering is more ornate. The rule is marked " * BELCHER BROs & Co. NEW YORK * and on the other side " * DOUBLE SHRINKAGE * ", or another way of denoting the shrinkage standard marked on the rule is "2 shrinks". So I am assuming it is from the earlier part of the time period for Belcher Bros Co. New York; 1856 - 1877. NOTE: The (*)'s marks stand for a star symbol incised in the rule located as shown. Also, the shrinkage rule used by Belcher was uncommon and used probably before Stanley standardized how a pattern maker's rules were indicated on the rule back in the day. I am assuming this rule is very rare and hopefully collectable.
Any thoughts / opinions or information on boxwood pattern maker's shrinkage rules?
