Small town newspapers & canned news releases
« on: April 11, 2015, 11:35:09 PM »
The photo is the wrong angle to see much of the T&L Engineers Pipe & Nut Wrench with Hilary Klein Miniature or the "Hawes Patent" Universal Ratchet with Jim Keats miniature and the photo caption is misleading in that the "largest adjustable monkey wrench" was not displayed at the library.  The rest of the text is as I gave it to the newspaper. ( http://www.yorknewstimes.com/news/wrenches-on-display/article_096f395e-e006-11e4-83e2-b71c072cfec4.html )
We did get a few locals to peek in to see the auction.
I've twice updated my entry in "Bus"s  guess the 72" Key Model hammer price  thread ( http://www.papawswrench.com/vboard/index.php?topic=16163.0 ) to include a photo & let folks know it sold for $16K.  It will make its way to Pennsylvania to be used & viewed at "Rough & Tumble" ( http://www.roughandtumble.org/ ).

I have the Rough & Tumble Treshersmen's show marked on my calendar since the beginning of the year, I'll have to remember to look for the Coes Key wrench when I get there. Mid August and it is a great show.

My wife and I spent 10 days in that area in 1988.  did 3 days of the show, took a tour of the
Harley Davidson plant in York, the Ford Museum that I heard is now closed, also went to visit
the folks at the Gem Magazine office. plus other tours.
we both had a very good time down that area.

we had stayed at a small cottage on North Ronks Road not too far from Ruff & Tumble.

yes, happy memories.

the guys from my area tell me that it has gotten bigger

You see how the writers at the newspapers mis interpret things, and you begin to question the news in general, too often I find I am right!   Thanks for the follow up on the giant wrench

Here's a link to today's (4/14/2015) follow up article  ( http://www.yorknewstimes.com/news/wrenches-on-display/article_096f395e-e006-11e4-83e2-b71c072cfec4.html ) about the COES KEY MODEL.  The sale may get written up in some of the antique trade papers, etc.  Hopefully help attract more collectors.

Stan, that last link didn't work for me, but I dug around on the paper's website and found the article here:

Well written, and I love that photo! It really puts the size of the big Coes into perspective.
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

Big wrench… BIG price
Now that’s a garage sale find that I’d like to run across. A 72” (that’s 6 feet long folks) Coes Key Model wrench set a new record for highest price realized by a single wrench at auction when it sold for $16.000 at the "Wrenching News" auction in York Saturday afternoon. The auction was conducted by Green Realty & Auction at the York City Auditorium and was held in conjunction with the annual Missouri Valley Wrench Club meet.
