Odd size hex drive sockets
« on: October 07, 2014, 12:11:24 PM »
ew experience.  Just found a hex drive socket set where the drive is approx. 7/16.  No size mark on socket or ratchet.  One socket measures 3/4.  Am I looking at a British or other make?

IIRC, AA lists a company who marketed 7/16" drive tools that could replace both 3/8" and 1/2" drive. The steel they used was supposedly strong enough to handle 1/2" drive jobs. One set to replace two competitors sets.

Duro-Indestro made stamped steel ratchets in 7/16" hex drive.    Many were not marked with a stamping as they were sold under a billion private brands for decades.    A picture of the ratchet and a socket would cofirm or deny this fast.     One clue is socket markings like 5-8 in place of 5/8".

George, it  was Blackhawk that touted the 7/16" square drive as the new miracle size of drive.
The only bad tool is the one that couldn't finish the job.  Ironicly it may be the best tool for the next job.
