These four pocket rules and promotional tape measure surfaced from the litter
on our kitchen table this morning. Which gives you some idea of what our
kitchen table looks like.
The bottom one is a Rabone 6" rule, with the British
Govt. arrowhead mark (dated 1944). One thing I've never known: why does
it say "LONDON"? (seeing as Rabone is of course a Birmingham company).
Or is London part of the govt. inventory system?
Next one up is a giveaway rule, note that it is a 15 cm rule, though
with both English and metric scales. On the back it says, "Saludos de
Goodell-Pratt Company". I've not seen that before. For Latin American
distribution?
Third from the bottom is a modern 15 cm rule, but I don't recognize
the trademark, or even the alphabet. (The discolorations are from
somebody's attempt to braze or weld (?) a pocket clip on the back.)
Fourth one up is a garden-variety Starrett, with a nice user-made
spring clip riveted on.
And the top tape is another giveaway, from Republic Steel, and
displays both an inch and a 'diameter' scale (i.e, inches divided
by pi), starting 4" in. I don't think I've seen one of those in a
promotional tape before.
Every piece of table detritus has a story, I guess.
