Bronze alloy bung wrench

  Bought this (272086) bronze alloy non-sparking bung wrench today. Fully intended to hang it in basement with my Ampco & Berylco tools, but didn't notice a dreaded word on side opposite part number. Didn't intend to include it in photo but it shows up in second pic. May disregard my rule concerning far eastern tools and hang it anyway as its a good heavy tool that appears to be of good quality. Welcome any advise.

Brass/bronze foundries are easy to set up in a low tech country where you mostly have cheap labor to sell ; P

It was probably cast in a mold made from a good one.

Who knows, you might have a bung that needss turning some day, and you won't want the nice US made one to get all dirty - P

...I dunno, it it looks pretty, hang it on the wall...

You just solved a mystery wrench of mine.  I'll have to dig it out and get some photos.  It's made of aluminum and looks sorta like yours above.  It has lots of info forged into the handle.

Don't mean to sound stupid, but what is a bung wrench?  Are we talking the wooden peg that plugs a wooden barrel?  Or are we talking about a modern version, like on a metal or plastic 55 gal drum?

That looks like it would be for the screw in type on a metal drum. The other kind might have been set by a mallet. I could make a really good/bad bung joke here but will resist the temptation.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, just want to post a similar wrench I found.  Until I saw this post, I did not know what it was. 

The wrench I found is a little different than yours but is recognizable as an equivalent. 

1st, it's made of aluminum, and at 11" overall length, only weighs 6oz.

2nd, it's made in the USA, Auburn Ind. to be exact.

3rd, it's made by the Multi Meter Company.

4th, it has a different configuration of individual tools incorporated into the larger tool.

  Rieke Corp is present name of company that made your wrench. It is shown on page 13 of their dispensing catalog and is called a drum wrench. You are correct ;they do the same job. Always good to have more info. I think I have another wrench of this usage but can't put my hand on it right now.

Thanks jim, I'll see what I can find out about Rieke Corp, Multi Meter, drum wrench, and W 169 on Google.

I'm just glad you posted your bung wrench; I had no idea what mine was for... a real head scratcher!

Found a little info on Rieke Corp.  Seems they bought the Multi Meter Corp of Toledo Ohio in 1961.  It was Multi Meter who originally designed and made the drum wrench, and it is still marketed by Rieke Corp today.  So, that is the Multi Meter connection on my wrench.

 Heres another bung wrench. This one by Tri-Sure of New York. Only model No on this is a (M). The ones I found on Googol had model No like M-10 etc. Don't know why this one doesn't have a number unless its a little older.
