odd wrench, key or P shaped, marked U P - any ideas???
« on: May 26, 2014, 01:50:34 PM »
Picked this up at a flea market yesterday.  Measures @7-1/2"L, and the socket is @5/8" square.  Marked only U P.  So what is it used for and who made it???

I've seen wrenches marked UPRR for Union Pacific Railroad. This one don't really fit a look of a railroad wrench though.

To me it resembles a handle to move the grates of a better wood burning stove.
The only bad tool is the one that couldn't finish the job.  Ironicly it may be the best tool for the next job.

Clearly, made in Michigan's Upper Peninsula...

I'm with strik9 on the wood burning stove or similar appliance suggestion.

It is actually a key to the executive restroom outhouse.

Thought it was up, but it was VP.

I found mine today, it was on one of my tool boards, really pitted, but the
U P is clearly there.  mine looks crudely made, real old look to it.

if you add all of this up you have a wrench for the coal stove and is also the key to the bathroom for a caboose on the UP railroad.
