Title: How old does it need to be to make it vintage?
Post by: oldgoaly on May 29, 2020, 11:43:57 AM
I've been working on some sheet metal projects and using tools I made  as far back as 1974-5. Is that old or what?
I've been kidded about being old for as old as those tools are. "The oldgoaly" came from wearing the old style leather pads. I would tell people that they are made from real live dinosaur leather I killed by hand in the last ice age. Oh there are some stories out there too. They usually get the location wrong, the general story is correct. <grin>The projects? well the big one is a Veedol oil can rack with the Veedol man rotating on top. The embossing / chasing Veedol in 24 gauge is hard on the shoulders. if you are bored and want to see the projects and lots of tools look here. https://www.facebook.com/pg/Sluggo-Son-Slow-Shoppe-187845251266156/photos/?tab=albums (https://www.facebook.com/pg/Sluggo-Son-Slow-Shoppe-187845251266156/photos/?tab=albums)

Interesting.   Reminds me of the Little King cartoon character.

Nice work.

To answer your question: for me, it's vintage if it's older than me.

It seems that's a fairly common test, because I encounter kids (that is, people younger than I am) who think stuff I used in my 20s is vintage.

I consider vintage as 50+ and antique is 100+. Great shop there OG, I still get amazed by people telling me something is vintage or antique and I remember buying it new like it was yesterday.

I was thinking if it's older than I am it's old/vintage/antique.
The other fun thing having a photographic memory for some things, not all. I call see that tool I just had is 20-25 different places, but still can't find it!

I put a tool down and 5 minutes later I can't find it. Growing old is so much fun?

Growing old is so much fun?
Well, it may have its frustrations, but it probably beats the alternative - granted, we don't know what's next, but I'm happy to wait to find out.
