Title: Good deed paid back
Post by: Papaw on July 27, 2017, 01:42:01 PM
I took my daughter-in-law to pick up a recliner she had bought from a family about 25 miles away through  heavy traffic .  Being the retired Papaw and now the only one in the family with a pickup, it was my pleasure.
After they loaded the recliner , the man came back out and offered me an old grinder, which I accepted. On further inspection, it is a Craftsman 6 inch belt driven grinder with one good wheel and one that has been used ALL THE WAY !

And  DIL bought me supper on the way home!

Nice!  Dinner too!  If you throw that wheel away, next week you'll find you need something ground to just that shape.

I need to find a motor and belt so I can affix a buffering wheel on it. Speed will be the question.

you should be able to adjust the speed with the motor speed and the size of the pulley.  i used to know that formula, but i'll have to look it all up.

Too bad you aren't a bit closer. I've been collecting motors lately.

Very nice. I like tools that uses a motor setup like that. Motor goes bad, you just grab another off the shelf in the garage. All my Craftsman table saws and air compressors have the same setup. I dislike tools where the tool has to be tossed when the motor dies. That grinder should last for many years if the former owner kept it lubed.

 your welcome, glad to help.

plus I forgot to compliment you on your 50 mile round trip, it's always a good feeling to be able to help someone.
the best part is when they show their appreciation, that makes the day for both parties.

that must be the reason that we keep our trucks after retirement.

It was a pleasure to take her somewhere. She is a very busy woman! An Educational Diagnostician with lots of experience, a beautiful woman, a great wife to my son, and a mother of three adopted children ages 13, 6, and 4.

And yes, that is one reason to keep the truck, besides, I don't like the new ones, the more complicated ones, nor the prices, and certainly don't need a note for 5 years!

My truck is a 98 GMC Sierra short bed that I bought used in 2002. Had the usual mileage problems, but I will keep her till I can't drive any more.
