Title: Charles Dupee Plane
Post by: Papaw on March 06, 2015, 06:06:47 PM
From MJD Tools-
"...what we believe to be the most important Eighteenth Century American plane ever sold at public auction. The plane was the personal jointer plane of Charles Dupee, who served in the American Revolution. He made this plane for his own use on February 27, 1787 and inscribed an inset pewter plaque with the following verse: "I AM A GOOD AND WELL MADE PLAIN/CHARLES DUPEE IS MY MASTERS NAM[E]/HE IS THE MAN THAT FORMED ME/HIS FAITHFUL SERVANT I WILL BE". The plane also has Charles Dupee's initials in pewter in the front next to a starburst design. If anyone is aware of the personal tools of any other 18th Century American maker having been sold, we would like to hear about the circumstances. To download a copy of the pdf file regarding the Dupee jointer plane, just click the link below. We encourage you to share it with anyone who may be interested.
